What Are You Doing?

Unforced Movement
Moving without trying to improve anything.

I went out on a walk today and didn’t really want to be around too much activity or people.

So I chose the path that loops around the big ditch with the large trees behind the houses and backyard fences.

I crossed paths with a biker, people waiting on a bus, and a dog walker on the sidewalk leading to the trail.

Once I entered the trail, there was no one.

I was glad.

I saw the backyards and was reminded again that some people have chaotic yards full of bushes, trees, and random growing things right next to manicured lawns.

I still haven’t decided which I like more.

The chaotic ones make me think nature can seem out of control.

The manicured ones make me think humans attempt to control nature.

Then I got to the Chihuahua backyard.

The first sign says,
"Beware: Chihuahua Attack Dog."

The sign at the end of the fence says,
"Chihuahua Security Force."

Both made me smile.

The screaming little Chihuahua running from sign to sign made me happy.

I got to the end of the trail where it begins to loop back up the other side and decided I felt safer just going back the same way I came down.

Same path.
Just uphill.

Same backyards.
Same Chihuahua.

But a new dog showed up.

A large golden-colored Lab.

He didn’t bark.

He didn’t wag his tail.

He just turned his head and watched me approach and leave.

Almost as if he was asking,
"What are you doing?"

I wondered the same thing.

I went home without answering that.
